Also it seems we need to specify the 'Thread Assignment' for every 'orifice' in the milled piece.

For example, on piece 'FB360_V1_28' there are 6 x holes and the choices I'm offered are:

  • Metric M3 x 0.05
  • UNC #5-40
  • UNF #4-48
  • No Thread

Are the 'threading' requirements not specified in the STEP drawings? If not, how do we make an accurate determination for each and every orifice?

Here's a list of all the options available on one online service I'm trying to get a quote from:

Thank you very much for the questions. We are sorry for the confusion.

With regards to the STEP files you identified:
• 160523_3.STEP – this has been replace with FB360_V1_31. We will remove this (now) redundant part from the directory.
• FB360_V1_32.STEP – this is a piece of threaded rod that we cut to length (with a hacksaw) in the shop. It is included as a part for Bill of Material purposes, but likely does not need to be ordered from a machine shop. You can order a longer piece of threaded rod (suggested part number given on the part PDF) and cut to length.
• FB360_V1_33.STEP – these are the custom focusing barrel that is included in the wide angle lens description, and 14 of these are required for the camera. You can see this is the assembly drawing pdf FB360_V1_05, but I agree that this is not clear and we will update the documentation. Thank you for pointing this out.
• FB360_V1.STEP – this is the complete assembly model, and shows how all of the parts fit together. This does not need to be separately ordered, but it may be helpful to provide this model to the machine shop so that they can see how it all goes together.

You are correct that STEP files do not contain the thread information, only the solid geometry (the tap drill hole). There are many other solid model formats available, but they are more likely to have import issues into other CAD packages. The PDF drawing should provide complete information, and the STEP file is the reference / machine shop aid. If this is unclear at all, please let us know.

Thank you very much for your questions and thank you for building a camera. Please let us know if there are any other questions.
