That is an automatic GitHub feature when you tag a Git commit. We have no input into what GitHub creates.

Which feature is this, I don't understand? You don't use the release feature, you use tags like I do here. So this suggests to me that someone created the tag locally and pushed it into the repo (like I do). So it looks like I'm following the same process as you guys, but if you download the archives from my repo you just get <tag>.tar.gz
but from yours you get <tag>-<tag>.tar.gz
.
