Did you disable gather_facts in your playbook? That will break detection of the ansible_pkg_mgr.
Regardless, this does not appear to be an issue with this role.
In fact, since I think you're using my SDKMAN role, it would be more appropriate to file a bug report there. Before you do, please verify that fact gathering is enabled, and if so, whether or not it fixes the underlying problem.
(Glad to see the SDKMAN role is getting some use ;) )

Thanks for the reply! You are right in regard to the fact that I'm using your SDKMAN role.
With respect to gather_facts, it is enabled. I will open a bug there.
