Well, now I can get past that... but the build is getting stuck on:
virtualbox-iso: TASK [geerlingguy.packer-debian : Run VirtualBox guest additions installation.] ***
It just hangs... forever.

Apparently the problem with the hanging installer (it hung when the vboxadd-setup.log indicated it was 'Building the graphics driver module.' and then says 'Killed') was related to the kernel provided by Ubuntu 14.04.1; I updated to 14.04.4 (after closing out #18 since I don't build new VMware boxes anymore so don't need HGFS support to work), and now the build completes.

Uploaded a new base box version (1.2.8).
Fix for this issue is: run vagrant box update to make sure you're using the latest version of the geerlingguy/ubuntu1404 box, or go ahead and build your own if you're building a custom box with this project.
