Hello! Thank you for the reports, the issue you shared is certainly a problem.
The current behaviour where lowercase atoms get capitalised is the correct behaviour, they are printed in Gleam syntax, not Erlang syntax. The issue is that atoms that cannot be represented using Gleam syntax were incorrectly being printed, resulting in confusing error messages were two different atoms look the same.
I suggest that for these unusual atoms, we use a different syntax like this:
// Erlang atom `hello` (valid Gleam syntax atom)
Hello
// Erlang atom `'Hello'` (invalid Gleam syntax atom)
atom.create_from_string("Hello")

Could we add a raw_inspect or similar which just prints the Erlang or JS representation?
