My best guess is that your Blackberry doesn't have the correct time. You have to set your time pretty close to the correct time (within a few minutes, ideally to within a few seconds).

Also, if your timezone is set incorrectly, things are unlikely to ever work.

The most common failure mode is either a) incorrect time, or b) incorrectly entered secret key. The latter is particularly common for Blackberry, as the user has to enter the secret key manually, whereas on Android the key can be scanned by the phone's camera.

Either misconfiguration can typically be resolved by using the OTP debugging webpage that is linked from the Wiki.

Please try the following:

  • In your browser, open the OTP debugging webpage at http://google-authenticator.googlecode.com/hg/libpam/totp.html (this works best in Chrome; in other browsers, the page works but might occasionally be sluggish)
  • Make sure that this page does not display any error messages about your computer's clock being set incorrectly. Otherwise, correct that error before continuing.
  • In a different tab, go to https://www.google.com/accounts/SmsAuthConfig and clear your current 2-step settings.
  • Create a new 2-step configuration for your account.
  • When it shows you the secret key, enter it into your phone and also enter it into the OTP debugging web page. For that latter, use copy-and-paste so that you know you got things right.
  • Verify that the phone and the web page both show you the same TOTP. If they do, then the Blackberry application works correctly. Maybe, you mistyped earlier, but this time you got things right. Those tiny keyboards can be tricky.
  • If the TOTP does not match, then enter the code shown by your phone into the TOTP field on the OTP debugging web page.
  • You will now either see a message telling you how much time skew your phone is suffering from; this should help you fix the time on your device. Maybe, you just configured the wrong time zone.
  • Or alternatively, you will see a message telling you that the code has not and will not be valid within a ±12h window. This suggests you entered the wrong code into your phone. Please double-check you read and entered all the characters correctly. It could also mean that while your phone's time and timezone is correct, the date or year isn't.
  • Once everything works, it is strongly encouraged that you clear the 2-step settings for your account one more time and then set up your Blackberry device again. This protects you against attackers that might have access to your browser's cache and might have seen the data you entered into the OTP debugging page.

Please report back whether these instructions helped you in figuring out what is wrong, or whether you found the instructions confusing and need additional help.
