The explanation, I believe, is simple, although unsatisfying: "The specific numeric values which the names map to may change between Python versions." (from https://docs.python.org/3/library/token.html)

To clarify further, asttokens.asttokens.token is simply the built in token module, and in your code you should be using token.OP to check the type rather than a hardcoded number.
