Compilation error on `make all` about gtkd HOT 4 CLOSED

The offending line in the demo relies on UFCS this might give some problems with old compilers, which compiler version are you using?

So, I poked around with upgrading gdc a bit and no one has built packages of a later version of gdc to Ubuntu 12.04, nor does compiling it yourself work easily, since it's targeted for gcc 4.7 or later. Essentially, since the library builds (it's the demo that's broken), I'm kind of disinclined to take more time on it, so I guess I'll presume your explanation is correct and will close this.
