It seems release:get_erl_version() doesn't work for Erlang 17 because format of the version string is different. Try to replace get_erl_version()'s body with echo "R17" and the last error should gone.
I'm not sure about other build errors though. I'll try to build ErlPort with Erlang 17 later.

I created PR #21 with the fix that should work for 17 releases - it produces R17 for them.

@marksheldon I've updated release and test scripts for Erlang R17. Otherwise ErlPort works as expected on R17.
