Making a user wait any specified amount of time defeats the main purpose of this plugin in which it runs behind the scenes without any additional configuration or steps for the user to take (including waiting a specified amount of time). Spam isn't the user's problem.

Using a nonce is a good idea, but would only be possible with the value, not the field name. WP doesn't have a way to return the value of a created nonce that I know of which you would need to check the POST array with.

Though the URL honeypot field is a good idea, it wouldn't be very scalable. Zero Spam also protects against user registrations and more in the future. Those forms wouldn't have a URL field/standard fields to replace. You would have to know what fields are there in order to replace, but you won't always know what fields are available as more forms are supported. It's built to provide the best protection while being unrestrictive, extendable and scaleable.
