However, the point of this issue is that probably it would be a good idea to write all the options in the documentation, so that the user won't need to search on the forums and elsewhere.

It's not the goal of the developer documentation to show all the configuration options of Lovelace. It's about developing, not using.
Bram is right, all Lovelace modes support custom cards.

@balloob ok, sure. However, if you look at the page for referecing the custom card, you'll see this code section:

Nowhere it's mentioned where to put this config and I think it would be better to at least point to Lovelace UI section or put some note there. The users could assume the code goes into configurations.yaml
