I've been having trouble with this too… http-server -h suggests I should be able to disable caching with http-server -c-1 -p 8081 but I'm still getting stale content :/

I've found that chrome is particularly bad (or good) at caching content. Another reload usually solves the problem - although, if you use a different port this should bust caching, unless you have served that content previously on the particular port. Are you sure that some sort of caching by the browser is not the issue?

@brendajin are you able to reproduce this on the latest version of http-server?

This sounds like some overly-heavy caching by the browser, which can be stopped with the -c-1 option, which was broken but is fixed by #326
