Tried to look into it further and it seems the issue lies on this line in OpenALPR.java:
Alpr alpr = new Alpr("eu", conf_file, runtime_dir);
Still haven't been unable to figure out what is happening as there is no error at all. Just seems to hang.

Which kind of numberplates are you trying to scan? European plates or other ones?
