fixed my UDP bad checksum issue, looks like offloading just needed to be disabled:
root@spike:/home/nistor # ifconfig vmx0 -txcsum
10.11.50.150.67 > 10.15.32.255.68: [udp sum ok] BOOTP/DHCP, Reply, length 294, xid 0xd789e388, Flags [none] (0x0000)
