Hello everyone!

I wanted to give a quick announcement here that we've reached the alpha version of https://github.com/jbenet/go-ipfs -- I'll be making a larger announcement in a few days, with a video talking about the project and the roadmap, and with a post detailing what's in the alpha.

In the meantime, you can check out the IPFS website for a video of go-ipfs alpha in action and the getting-started docs on the website. There's also the beginning of a talk on the case for the distributed web.

If you have IPFS installed and a local HTTP gateway running, you can view the website (dagsite, really) at: http://localhost:8080/ipfs/QmUxukrtJQ7P7XQnYH2d6Vaq8MMzFNQNo4MyrP7361vLyf/

Which, you can also view at the public HTTP gateway http://gateway.ipfs.io/ipfs/QmUxukrtJQ7P7XQnYH2d6Vaq8MMzFNQNo4MyrP7361vLyf

Enjoy :)

Hey Everyone -- minor announcement: there is now an https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/ipfs-users mailing list too. I'd keep it all in github (as i really like "github issues" as a communication medium), but people have requested a list because some users don't use github.

Thanks,
Juan

Hey all, a few quick comments:

go-ipfs 0.3.0 is out

go-ipfs version 0.3.0 is out. See the changelog. Mainly, large performance improvements and lots of bugfixes. Update ipfs by installing the client again:

You should see:

> ipfs version
0.3.0

Important note: you'll have to run a simple repo migration. These will run automatically in the future, but for now, check out: https://github.com/ipfs/fs-repo-migrations/blob/master/run.md

As always, let us know (in irc, by mail, or in the faq repo) if you run into problems.

new FAQ repo

There is now a FAQ repo over at https://github.com/ipfs/faq -- ask questions there.

Thanks,
Juan

Hey Everyone,

Today I spoke about IPFS and the importance of distributing the web at fluentconf. Many thanks to @kyledrake for organizing this. I don't think the videos will be available anytime soon, sadly. But I will be synthesizing that into another video I can post hopefully soon.

IPFS Hands on Intro at ESV Meetup Tomorrow!

The Ethereum Silicon Valley Meetup has graciously invited me to speak tomorrow night and give a hands-on introduction to IPFS. The event details are:

7:00 PM, Thursday, April 23, 2015 - (2015-04-23 19:00)

Galvanize
44 Tehama Street, San Francisco, CA

Please RSVP at: http://www.meetup.com/EthereumSiliconValley/events/221350594/

If it would be useful, we can start having dedicated IPFS meetups in SF, Palo Alto, and other places. It may be time. :)

Cheers,
Juan

PS: I include below a message I posted at the meetup page:
