it genuinely might just be that your PSU is drawing more power than A) the PSU is rated for or B) the surge protector is rated for
iris and sodium increase gpu usage so it might be that your gpu is drawing too much power
does this happen with anything else? have you tried running furmark to stress test your pc?

I have the exact same issue with the Nvidia GeForce 1070Ti running Windows 11 (tested with Nvidia driver 551.61 & 551.52). CPU & GPU stress testing applications don't crash my pc. Only overloading the gpu in minecraft with iris installed seems to result in a sudden freeze followed by a black screen. At that point only a pc restart can resolve the black screen.

edit: Getting up to 100% gpu usage using other mods combined with sodium doesn't result in a crash. Here the game just slows down as expected and can periodically freeze.

edit 2: it was the PSU cpu+memory, see comment below

hm, i see, would it be possible for you to try an earlier version of iris? something might have been changed in the latest version, so it's useful to know how far this goes back

Using Iris 1.6.14 + Sodium 0.5.5 + Indium 1.0.28 (all the mods that I've had to change) seems to have resolved the issue. The game also runs smoother in general now.

(I will update here if I ever come across this type of crash again with the above mod setup)

edit: it was the PSU cpu+memory, see comment below

And thank you for the help!

Adding ferritecore + memoryleakfix and lowering the java memory from 8G to 5G, seems to work for now. It can run the game intensively without crashing, where it would have crashed before.

I'm sorry for any confusion and time waste. It also happens when running minecraft without iris next to a pc stress test. I've checked the potential power draw via Newegg's calculator. My current setup is currently drawing just above my PSU Wattage in power at full load. (likely due to recent small upgrades; e.g. motherboard, ram and ssd)

edit: in the end it wan't the PSU. I had memory tweaked in the bios, which wasn't completely stable at higher loads. I had to reduce the clock speeds from 3400 to 3200 to fix the black screens.
