I agree that the active/inactive states were not clear enough. I've implemented a simpler style which I think is much better - could you have a look at, for instance,

and let me know what you think?

It's more that the outline of the box doesn't tell you which one you are
working on when you can't see the tabs at the top. Distinct colours
therefore would help.

Ah yes, good point. Distinct colours are probably not the way to go, though, they would make the design look even more unpleasant than it already does. I've made the section buttons move as you scroll, so they are always visible. Please try it again and let me know what you think.
