Neovim updates the window dimensions when the terminal emulator is resized and when Tmux splits the window. However, it doesn't update the dimensions when the tmux split was called by Neovim itself. I guess that Tmux sends the SIGWINCH message to Neovim but Neovim is busy running Tmux and doesn't react to the signal. I've made both vimcom (R) and the Object Browser (another instance of Neovim) to send the SIGWINCH to nvim, but once R is no longer running there is no other application controlled by nvim that could send the signal.

The solution was to use :mode. Without arguments, it resizes and redraws the window.
