I changed the plugin's code. Now, before setting the default value of vimrplugin_applescript as 1, the plugin checks whether either /Applications/R64.app or /Applications/R.app is a directory. Note: I don't have access to a Mac OS X to test the change.

Oh, I think there should be a note in the docs on the R path that mentions the vimrplugin_applescript for macvim users. I'll test it out and let you know if this works.

Your fix worked. rf started an X11 screen with an R instance. Thank you!
For reference, I'm on snow leopard brew R 2.15.1
