Sorry for the late response to your issue.

New Tab Redirect can't be responsible for the change to your new tab functionality. The way New Tab Redirect works is that it uses an override page to load redirect.html which communicates with a background/event page to load your settings and actually redirect to your preferred url. Once you uninstall the extension, that functionality is completely gone. You can verify the files are removed by following the instructions on the wiki for accessing the installation location directly.

Is it possible that this is the cause of your modified new tab page?
