Hey, same thing here. The mousemove works, but the click does not! I'm using Xubuntu 14.04 (Xfce 4.10) too.
@acutbal try this and see if it works:
xdotool mousemove --sync 1050 5
sleep 0.2
xdotool click 1
It is working here!
Ok, after some tests, it looks like sometimes it works and some not.

In the above you could include the sleep command in xdotool command like this:
xdotool sleep 0.2 click 1
But as you told it does not work always.
Would it be more certain to use
xdotool keyup <your-shortcut-keybinding>
before the xdotool click command? In my testing it seems to work, but I think it would be better, if it was handled automatically by the shortcut program.
