That would be cool. I'd always intended that jq would eventually be packaged as a library as well as a command-line tool so that it could be called from other languages (a la PCRE). I've no idea what's involved in writing a C extension for node.js though.

Great. An extension in languages like PHP would be very useful, where JSON is not native. The overhead of transformation between PHP objects and JSON objects could be avoided.

That's exactly what I thought after reading the manual.

No matter how fast the module would be. It might be used for a rapid prototyping of datastore or API.

P.S.: Binding to python would be great too.

OK, thanks to @nicowilliams jq can be built in library form now. I have no particular plans to write bindings to node.js, python, PHP or whatever, but I'll happily click "merge" if someone else feels like it.
