I'm using the latest Mac Chrome, which I believe is one of their beta's.

yes. I can see the bug now. Just installed Chrome 5.0.375.29 beta on my Linux so I can start debugging this. Seems to be fairly important issue:

It seems that Chrome does some validation routines itself before the form.onsubmit event which makes this a bit challenging.
