Hii @RainbowMango ! I would love to work on this project idea under GSoC'22. Kindly update the details ! Like tools on which contributors will be working, so that I will work on this accordingly.

PS: I don't think that this issue for GSoC is being assigned on first come, first serve basis. Kindly tell me if this assigned like that.

Thanks 👍

Hello, @RainbowMango I want to work on this issue in GSoC 2022. I am an intermediate frontend developer and would like to make this website in NextJs or Docusaurus(Dynamic site generator ). I can also design the website using design principles as I am currently studying BTech in Industrial Design. This project can help me learn new things under your guidance. This project will be a great opportunity for my career.

Hi @iamrajiv
I'm not sure if I can find the initial Hugo template, I'll try to contact the author.

should we try other Dynamic site generators and tools like https://docusaurus.io/ and https://www.docsy.dev/, etc.

I'll look at the tools later and get back to you.

I guess this project is selected in GSoC 2022.

Don't know yet. Here is the timeline.

@RainbowMango Yes, CNCF is selected and as Karmada comes under CNCF, all the ideas under https://github.com/cncf/mentoring/blob/main/summerofcode/2022.md is also selected 😶

I would love to work on this project idea under GSoC '22 as this time it is open for professionals as well. So here's a brief comparison of Static Site Generators which I had created, https://adithyaakrishna.github.io/Analyze-SSG/ and as we are using Vue.js for Karmada dashboard, I feel VuePress can be a great choice for us given that VuePress v2 is development (https://github.com/vuepress/vuepress-next) or else Docusaurus can also be a great choice

Hey, @RainbowMango I also want to work on this project with the CNCF organization in GSoC 2022. I read the above messages, If we all can work on the same issue So who will be selected as a contributor? How it will be decided? How we can start working on this project? Is there any video guide available or only documentation?

Hey @RainbowMango I'd love to contribute to this project under GSoC 2022. I have prior experience in building static sites and SPAs with intuitive user interfaces. You can checkout my portfolio at https://mayanksh.codes/. In regards to this project, I have some doubts

"Support for multiple languages" (from the mentioned task list)

What does this mean? What languages are you looking to support?

"We use Hugo to format and generate our website, and Netlify to manage the deployment of the site" (from Readme.md)

Since the project mentions re-designing and refactoring, should the tech-stack remain the same? (Is it a hard requirement?)

Hey @RainbowMango I just checked out Karmada git repo, the project itself is quite interesting. Its website needs some work. I am an intermediate frontend web-developer (HTML/CSS/JS). I designed and coded www.thevayam.in and I can design (UI) with design principles and tools (adobe suite) and code it. This project can work as a great opportunity for me to polish my skills and learn new things under your guidance and CNCF community. Project is also registered on GSoC'22, so it will help me in my resume as well.

Hi, @RainbowMango I want to work on this issue in GSoC 2022. I wanted to know the current Karmada website in Hugo based so are we going to follow the same Hugo based template or should we try other Dynamic site generators and tools like https://docusaurus.io/ and https://www.docsy.dev/, etc.

docusaurus +1.Many open source projects use it for docs and blog.

Hey @RainbowMango , I am Mansi Mishra currently a Sophomore(CSE). I am interested in contributing to Karmada Project in GSoC 2022. I have chosen this project because I am familiar with HTML/CSS/JavaScript and I have done 2 projects using HTML/CSS/JavaScript the first one I have deployed through netlify ( 1. https://recipe-diary.netlify.app/ 2. https://0904-mansi.github.io/Fitness-website/) and Also have basic to intermediate knowledge of Node/Python/Go I have worked on some projects using python with my team as college assignment (1. https://github.com/0904-mansi/Python-Assignment 2. https://github.com/SanskritiHarmukh/Forecasting-Stock-Market-Index ). I want to know when we should start raising PRs and Issues on the repo? and How to get help from mentors is there any regular meetups and contribution guide for this project and any template for writing a proposal?
Thank you!

Hey @RainbowMango ,
Does the website have designs related to the refactor? or are they supposed to be created by the applicant?

from website.

ORKO06 avatar ORKO06 commented on September 24, 2024

@RainbowMango I believe for giving the website internationalization support we could use google translate API and we can make it more dynamic by getting the user location by using the javascript GEOLOCATION API. We can also include the dark theme mode as many people now prefer to use the dark mode.

from website.

adithyaakrishna avatar adithyaakrishna commented on September 24, 2024

@ORKO06 For this, I am not sure but we may have to check CNCF rules as getting a user location is a privacy concern.

from website.

ORKO06 avatar ORKO06 commented on September 24, 2024

@adithyaakrishna We can ask the user permission for this. If they agree we can dynamically show the languages which will be best suited alongside all other languages otherwise we can give them the option to select the language from the given language list.

Hey @RainbowMango Is there any task for contributors to complete to get accepted into the organization and any prerequisite that 2-3 PRs merged before we selected?

from website.

adithyaakrishna avatar adithyaakrishna commented on September 24, 2024

Yes, that can be done @ORKO06 but considering this is an open-source project, Google's GeoLocation API costs 4$ per 1000 requests, https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/geolocation/usage-and-billing, considering the factors of no. of users, traffic, network bandwidth and all, I am not sure if this would be a required feature, but if we can overcome the pricing thing, then it would be a nice extra to have 👀

No tasks now. But there is a demo about refactoring the website at #31, we are going to use the https://docusaurus.io/ to refactor it.
