Could you test if this still happens in version 0.7.6? If so, please outline the steps I could take to reproduce it by using the Facebook.kdbx example database you sent me previously (or a new sample DB if you prefer)?

Version 0.7.6 is available from the [http://keefox.org/download/experimental-version experimental download] page on keefox.org

Thanks,
Chris

I've improved the URL matching routines in version 0.8.4 ([http://keefox.org/download/experimental-version]) which might help reduce the likelihood of this happening.

I've made more changes to the "save password" feature in 0.8.7 (e.g. save to group) and have yet to see this problem.

For the record, it can appear as though KeeFox is behaving incorrectly in this area sometimes but I usually find it is caused by changing a checkbox (e.g. "remember me on this computer").

I'm closing this ticket since any problem is likely to be due to a different underlying cause by now. Please do explain how I can reproduce something like this if it's still an issue on certain websites.

@luckyrat Could you help me how to prevent KeeFox offering to save the password on submit that came from KeePass?

It's probably either because the field information has changed (e.g. the website has changed its internal IDs) or the URL is different (maybe - I think there might have been some situations like this with the current version of KeeFox but I've never got it confirmed and KeeFox 1.5 has all of that part of the addon re-written).

Normally, it's best to just save the new password and delete the old one from KeePass rather than worry about exactly what's changed. I'd only think about it in more detail if the problem kept occurring even after saving a new entry or if there was some important reason to keep the original entry forever.

Thank you!
I'll report the results.

I think this should still be considered a usability problem. I’m way too lazy to update my ~70 passwords with KeeFox RPC data. And frankly, there’s no need to: KeeFox is successful in finding the login form as well as finding the entry to use.
This message is only acceptable when updating existing entries has been implemented. In that case, it should ask to update the entry used to fill the form.

It has in KeeFox 1.5

it should ask to update the entry used to fill the form.

It's impossible to know if the user is updating or creating a new login until they select the relevant option. Perhaps we could guess which is more likely in some cases and default to the update tab in some circumstances but we can never improve beyond the possibility of removing one click from the process and I very much doubt that one click improvement would be worthwhile in the face of uncertainty over which interface KeeFox will present each time. I'm happy to consider a feature request along these lines (as a new issue) but definitely want to wait until 1.5 has been used in anger for a while (and maybe take a look at any relevant usage metrics) before investing time in that.

No, that’s okay. It’s just that at the moment it’s asking as if it didn’t know the password. Which is confusing, because it just used an existing KeePass entry to fill the form. If it were to ask something like “Hey, I filled the form using this entry and it didn’t exactly match, do you want to update it?”, that would be cool.

I’ll do that, then.

I've just installed KeePass and KeeFox, imported my LastPass database and started using them. WHen I go on a website where KeePass knows the credentials, imported by LastPass, KeeFox succesfully fills the forms, but after the login it asks if I want to save the password again. The only way to avoid that is to actually save it, through KeeFox, creating a doublet. Is this a my problem or not?

@RizzoV, Does this help: #559 (comment)?

By the way, this issue is closed, so better to leave new comments on #559.
