Fire.app uses Compass extensions, and it can load compass extensions from "~/.compass/extensions": https://github.com/handlino/FireApp/wiki/Use-compass-extensions

You can create your own Compass extension, but personally I think it is not very easy now: http://compass-style.org/help/tutorials/extensions/

We have thought about that feature too. It would be super cool/useful if we have a good way to make project templates.

Q1: Is "~/Library/Application Support/Fire.app/templates/" a good place?

Q2: What do you suggest for Windows/Linux users?

Q3: Should we look up folders like "~/Dropbox/fireapp-templates" too?

Q4: We do not actually need a "fire-info", but we do need config.rb. And "git clone" may be not possible because the os may not have git.

To circle back and chime in:

Q1: Is "~/Library/Application Support/Fire.app/templates/" a good place?
Outside of having a user preference to set the directory, this seems to be the most appropriate place I'd expect to find this on OS X.

Q2: What do you suggest for Windows/Linux users?
Same as above on user preference. Else, I would suggest the user's AppData directory (C:\Users\AppData\Local\Fireapp\templates).

Q3: Should we look up folders like "~/Dropbox/fireapp-templates" too?
That could be a good idea or perhaps just let the user set the pref?

Q4: We do not actually need a "fire-info", but we do need config.rb. And "git clone" may be not possible because the os may not have git.
Touché on git, and I suppose the same would be for svn. The config.rb file does make things simpler and I could get behind this. Having it auto git clone on project creation is more or less icing on the cake in regards to the feature request :-)

We have patched Compass (long time ago), so it can use "easy mode" to create Compass extension/template without writing any ruby code. We have also added a shortcut to open extensions folder in Fire.app UI.

These updates will be in Fire.app v1.5.
