And I'm not at all volunteering @arschles for this, but he has implemented this previously in Steward. We've since removed our helm reifier entirely, but whoever takes this issue on might consider tapping @arschles for some insight or even a link to relevant commits in case it spares anyone from re-inventing the wheel.

It would be great if there was also some version leniency. As things are now, the helm client in the k8s broker must perfectly match version of the tiller running in the cluster. This will become an adoption obstacle in that catalog + k8s broker can only run in clusters where customers happens to have just the right version of tiller.
I do hope that the gRPC access to Tiller would get us some flexibility that helm client doesn't allow.
