Perhaps the real problem here is that the new release requires Go 1.21 but this is not listed among the "breaking changes".

/retitle failed to build kustomize after v5.4.0 when using Go v1.20

Thanks for reporting this problem!
Currently, Go uses strict minimum requirements for the Go version from the 'go.work' file, and Kustomize is set on go 1.21 now.
To improve forwards compatibility, Go 1.21 now reads the go line in a go.work or go.mod file as a strict minimum requirement: go 1.21.0 means that the workspace or module cannot be used with Go 1.20 or with Go 1.21rc1.

If you want to build using Go 1.20, please use kustomize v5.3.0!
