Okay, settings groundwork, theme setting, censor char setting, and playing different days (including prevention of race conditions) is all done now (which is enough Censordle development for me today). Thank you for the discussions.

wow this is incredible! thank you so much @larsgw !

That all makes sense to me!
The colour scheme I see a different way a bit, since the user is setting that at their browser/OS level. Additionally would require a lot more work, making a proper opt out is going to require a new dialog, and storing more data, rather than just consuming what they'd already requested via the existing communication method for that. (we have the same discussion in another project, I guess there we will end up doing the development unfortunately rather than using os level controls which are convenient and easy to find for users).

I don't know if other people actually feel the same, but I don't want/need every application and webpage to be the same, so if possible, I'd like to have a setting light/dark/system and default to dark when there's no system preference.

I also don't know if other people feel the same, so I put a poll out on the fediverse for it. Of course completely just as information for us. If you have a strong preference, that's fine it can be done like that, it isn't my project after all :)

Thank you for the poll, you have much more reach than me :)
I did not mean to suggest you would have to implement all these setting dialogs etc., I have (some) time to work on that as well.

Looks like you were right @larsgw, a settings dialog is needed :)
ah, fantastic to hear! I have very limited time in the next month due to an academic conference and thereafter vacation, but, great to hear :)

Settings open up more possibilities, like hard mode with random characters :) (screenshot from the day one article, no real spoilers):

if you're adding alternative schemes already, saw this toot from a Unicode bot I follow, might also be visually pleasing https://botsin.space/@SmoothUnicode/110661364436545816 (but no pressure ofc, happy to PR that myself once youve got the redaction scheme selector)
