Another attempt I made was a useEffect that would check if the user is valid and if not route them back to the home page. This worked for the most part except refreshing the page would bring you back to the homepage right away and that's not a good experience.
Isn't that what you want, though? That's what I was going to suggest.
useEffect to check if the user exists. If no user, Router.push('/') back to the home page. Could also check a cookie in the <Head />.

@leerob Hey Lee, yeah I ended up just going with the useEffect method. It works just fine after some more testing! Thank you again!
