Hi, I am in the same situation. I followed the advice of setting $upstream_app to the local ip of the container host and i still receive the 502 bad gateway. additionally in the home assistant logs it shows invalid http method

I also had problems trying to set this up today. I'm not sure about host mode, but when set to my reverse proxy network I can get it working by changing the docker name in the config from "homeassistant" to "HomeAssistantCore"

But I also read that HAss needs to be in host mode to connect devices...

i run homeassistant in bridge mode without any issue and the default config is what i'm using. That said, if you're running in host, you do exactly as nemchik said, if you're getting a 502 after that, join us on discord so we can help out. This isn't a bug and thus not really appropriate for github issues.
