This is weird. I just spun up a fresh 10.04 VM (no ruby, using chef-full) and ran the agent install (build from source default) and it went fine.
The error you're actually seeing is related to ragel (which I suppose I should install). What's interesting though is that I had a clean build?

What distro are you on? I AM making some fixes right now for 10.04 (hence this particular VM)

Could be my distro then. I was trying this on Precise, 12.04.
