What do "netstat -ulnvp" and "ip -4 addr show" tell?
Maybe you are using the official IPv4 address whereas the system is NATted behind? Then you have to use the private IP.

That fixed it. So if the XLX reflector is on an internal network it needs to have it's local ip address in the /etc/init.d/xlxd file.

Sure. How else would the process bind an IP address that is not assigned to one of its interfaces? ;-)

Very true. I don't it was clear in the README that xlxd uses that config file to read it's own ip address as I've seen many a program ask for the routable ip in a config so it can report back to a server.
