macadmins/sofa#104 was merged and now addresses the overall issue here. This should now work as I originally intended.

Will err on the side of caution moving forward until I better understand the sofa issue and gdmf behavior

to help resolve the issue where the SOFA feed doesn't have the list of supported devices, it looks like you might be able to use the models aspect instead. E.g. if model is Mac15,13, you can check the supported macOS releases for that model (e.g. Sonoma 14), and use that to determine supported? Might be some added logic, not sure but throwing it out there as an idea.

erik
SOFA team is discussing now what we can do to fix this, even though this is technically Apple's fault for removing them from gdmf

Kyle Erickson
That's fair. It was mostly the thought that if the latest version of macOS is 14, you only need to match the major version to determine if it's supported or not, and those keys are already present in the feed for each model.

erik
oh hm!

erik
that's actually a really good point

erik
it's literally the same thing I'm telling the sofa team to do right now, but at the feed level

Kyle Erickson
Yeah. In the off chance Apple splits an update again you'd still need to use softwareUpdateID to determine if the update was applicable to a given system though. Although if behind the scenes the SOFA team is mapping softwareUpdateID to the hardwareModel it might be fine to swap out on the feed itself. I'll leave it to you and the team and we'll go from there.
