In shows the area of usage of the coordinate system according the EPSG database.
The extent rectangle is drawing the WGS84 bounds which are part of EPSG database for the covered area (in this case "Canada").
It would be great to have better visualization showing central meridians and the fact that projection is conic - probably done with Mapnik instead of Google Maps. Patches and discussion on how to make this visualization in a better way to happen in #62.
