It's possible, but you need to do it outside of sal.js. Simply add a class, which will set proper transition-delay and add this class to you element. For example:

<div data-sal="fade" class="custom-delay"></div>
/* It's a good idea to increase specificity */
[data-sal].custom-delay {
  transition-delay: 2s;
}

from sal.

I actually did exactly what you said, my thinking was that maybe it was some kind of bug for not allowing longer delays via data attributes.
