@mjbvz Since locating the tslint.json is done by the tslint module, there is a chicken and egg problem. For this reason the vscode-tslint extension hardcoded a check for ~/tslint.json.

Another problem with the current implementation is that the tslint error will be created for each .ts file that is opened by the user. It should only be reported once.

The next problem is that the warning will not go away once you install tslint. So this questions the use of diagnostics.

The simplest fix for this approach is to just log the issue to the TypeScript log, which is visible in the output channel.
