Minetest's builtin falling.lua calls an on_dig function without a valid player. (this behaviour has been introduced in that commit)
Later this value is passed to handle_node_drops.

Here is a Pull Request which should fix the problem: #36

This issue should be reported to minetest/minetest to properly document the possible argument values, and to dreambuilder_modpack so that it will work for other situations too.

~~Technic only extends handle_node_drops, and is not responsible for this error.~~

EDIT: Oops! Yes, sorry. This is a item_drop issue.

Sorry about the delay in responding. I installed the new item_drop into dreambuilder, then went and stood under a column of sand and dug it. Worked perfectly. My thanks!
