I recommend focusing on content and getting it up first. Style can be tweaked as we go along.

@kpierceHST no rush, but when you have time, please could you provide some pointers on how we can make the text more accessible/readable?
- Font: Should we change the font? If so, do you have any recommendations?
- Size of text: Is the text large enough?
- Colour of text: Should the colour of the text change?
- Colour of background: Should the colour of the background change?

There are some guidelines at http://ux.mit.edu/accessibility/guidelines . Note also that MIT's IST offers usability assessments: see http://ux.mit.edu/usability . Not today, I know, but it might be useful to invite their help.
For me, it's probably most of the above. I think the main issue is font-weight in combination with font-color. Weight seems to be 300 for menu items. 500 would be better. Color is #353B44, I think. Also the buglike icons at the left on the menu items are distracting and make it harder to focus on the text. Sans-serif font, especially a compact sans-serif, is harder to read than a serif font (unless you're on an old green CRT monitor...).
Right now, text weight at http://mimic.physionet.org/help/ is different (less than, less legible) than at http://mimic.physionet.org/about/mimic/ .

I met someone from MIT Sloan at the recent MIT Digital Health Conference who specialises in accessibility of digital content.
He is involved with: http://www.pstarfish.org/. I have invited him to this weekend's hackday so will ask for his input...

Two or three weeks ago we met up with the @MIT-LCP/mit_accessibility_and_usability group (including @RichCaloggero). We are hoping that the team will be able to suggest improvements via GitHub issues (and possibly even contribute fixes directly to the repository).
