I solved this by manually creating the directory it requests.
mkdir /home/yan/Documents/efforg/mitro/browser-ext/login/build/chrome/release/

Nice workaround. This is clearly a Makefile bug, because our Makefile is a mess. I'll try building it on a Linux VM to see if I can reproduce this and figure out how to fix it.
