This would alleviate some issues with the latest version of Gemcutter/Rubygems. The 0.2.3 version on Gemcutter currently http://rubygems.org/gems/chronic declares hoe as a runtime dependency which sets off a chain of dependencies that requires Rubygems 1.3.6 (latest at time of this writing)

the version currently (0.2.3) up also has a runtime dependency on hoe, which is really bad practice. i'm opting to build the gem myself rather than have hoe on production machines.
