I don't see ways to create a virtual register operand without accessing a BaseMethodCompiler instance. Perhaps I should expose it to BaseCallingConvention?

Cant you use Operand.CreateVirtualRegister(MosaType type, int index)?

It requires an index argument, which is maintained by VirtualRegisters instance in the BaseMethodCompiler instance. I'm not sure if there is a consequence of providing invalid index.

Yeah that does seem to be a problem, why isn't the virtual register allocater statically accessible?
Would that be a possible solution?

Virtual register can be created by calling from any class that derives from BaseMethodCompilerStage.

Operand v1 = AllocateVirtualRegister(typeSystem.BuiltIn.U4);

or from any class that derives from BaseMethodCompiler:

VirtualRegisters.Allocate(typeSystem.BuiltIn.U4);

Do not call Operand.CreateVirtualRegister method directly.

Yes I'm aware of it. However, the place that need the virtual register is within BaseCallingConvention/BaseArchitecture which is neither derived from BaseMethodCompilerStage nor BaseMethodCompiler, so I was thinking about adding a parameter to obtain the compiler instance in the place. What do you think about it?

Yes, go ahead and pass the compiler instance as a parameter.
