You're right, I didn't give a reason in #28.

We wanted bring some new devices in, but at the same time keep the list of available device to a reasonable amount. The current selection is based on data we can see in the Play Store analytics, so it reflects the market of Firefox users to some extend.

Re: including older devices, I will think about it. With the market fragmentation we experience on Android it will be hard to cover everything. The goal here is to balance a reasonable amount of offered devices against a wide range of screen sizes and market share.

If you feel we're missing out on obvious choices, please let me know :)
