I've reproduced this error and I'm currently investigating the cause.
I have narrowed it down to after the "newRoot" mutation gets received on the front-end, when it sends the following request packet:

which it does to be able to select <body> by default in the markup-view. Some times that call will succeed and return the right front, but some times, the subsequent RPC request won't return a node, causing the rest of the code to fail. Typically, this RPC call:

returns response.nodeId = 0.

For instance, the following chrome protocol request:
{"id":54,"method":"DOM.querySelector","params":{"nodeId":169,"selector":"body"}}
gets the following response:
{"id":54,"result":{"nodeId":0}}
And the response data doesn't contain an error property, so it's kind of hard understanding what's happening, especially that all message and node IDs seem to be correct from what I've seen.
