Can't play any video: "AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'groups'" about yewtube HOT 7 CLOSED

After switching to mpv, I was able to play videos. So I guess there's something related to mplayer playing the urls returned by pms-youtube. I tried mplayer, mplayer-vaapi and mplayer2, and all three didn't work.

Ok, thank you for reporting this. It's working for me with mplayer in Xubuntu 13.10. I am currently downloading Ubuntu 14.04 and will try it from live usb soon and get back to you.

I just tried in with Ubuntu 13.10 in VirtualBox and it's working. What's weird is that the same mplayer version is available in both Trusty and Saucy. Maybe it's related to the network configuration or something? (because I see "AF_INET6..." in the debug above...)

I found the issue. This doesn't seem to work with mplayer-vaapi. And for some reason, mplayer-vaapi was automatically installed when installing "mplayer", I though it was removed but it was installed back... Since mplayer-vaapi is an unofficial package, I guess this bug can be closed.

Ok, I'm glad you sorted it. Still interesting that it doesn't work with mplayer-vaapi. I will test that out later and try to get that working.
