Yes, that happens because the project is not packaged as a jar file, but as an apklib instead.
We've still haven't implemented the deployments for gradle native format 'aar', which acts as a substitute to the apklib format. Also, the gradle-android-plugin doesn't seem to support apklib yet, though you can see their progress in this thread: jvoegele/gradle-android-plugin#100 (not much now, just people asking for it).
We will build aar packages in the future, we just didn't had time yet.

Anyway, you could download the source code from the library project in your app and reference it from gradle with its directory in the filesystem. It should work.

HI Nacho,
yup, referencing sources works. just in case someone else would need it:
dependencies {
compile fileTree(dir: 'libs', include: '.jar')
fileTree(dir: 'libs/src', include: '__/.java')
}
and under libs/src I put com/mobivery/greent/smartlocation.
Thanks.

Aplogozes for my previous comment. Approach with sources doesn't work.
What I did:
- edit pom.xml to compile JAR library
SmartLocation Library
jar - run maven install (maven 3 required), it shown some s3 exceptions, but build succeded
- went to .m2/repositories folder, find the JAR and copied it my app libs folder.
After that gradle started to see the lib.
