I like this idea.
About the confusion with GetXSize() and GetRasterXSize(), I totally agree. I would love to solve the similar issue of GetSpatialRef() (OGRLayer method) and GetSpatialReference() (OGRGeometry method). We should either make them both getSpatialReference() or make an srs attribute that you can get (and also set if its a Geometry object).

👍 on doing things like .size returning [256,256] and .srs returning SRS object.
@brandonreavis - want to new create issues on these specific changes (or just pull requests) and then close this after linking to them?
