why couldn't the toolshelf model just be an elongated bean

The asymmetry has definitely bothered me in past- I usually place my toolshelves on the back of my hands where they tend to be out of the way/not in risk of clipping against loved ones, while still being easily accessible.

It may not help with the sharpness of the visuals at the moment- but perhaps you could see if repositioning them to see if it provides any extra comfort?

I have already added a context menu toggle to my avatars to disable the toolshelves. I have my avatar saved with the toolshelves off by default. This makes sense to me because I would have to spawn my tools anyway so what is the point of having the shelves to hold them active all the time?

When I am using toolshelves, I want them to be easily accessible, so I keep them off of the body just behind the thumbs. This allows me to just lift my hand in a hand-shaking gesture and fire my tools onto the palm side of the shelf. Some people would consider this upside down, however, it is a far more natural movement than trying to fire a tool onto the back of the hand (the default location).
