An alternative to passing environment variables is mounting a config file into the container, respectively building a new container on top of ninech/netbox containing your customized config file.

Thanks for the idea.
After reading that I ended up adding the following lines to netbox.env:

NAPALM_ARGS1_KEY=secret
NAPALM_ARGS1_VALUE=password

And then altering the configuration/configuration.py to read like this:

NAPALM_ARGS = {
  os.environ.get('NAPALM_ARGS1_KEY', ''):os.environ.get('NAPALM_ARGS1_VALUE', ''),
}

That seemed to enable me to connect to my devices via NAPALM correctly.

Unless you can come up with a better way to do it, I think I'm all set.
