Thanks for the question. Whatever version of sarpy that you are using is extremely out of date. The MetaNode construct was eliminated about a year ago. It was my understanding (which may not be completely say), that calling string was intended to create a display friendly version. I'm fairly confident that there as no simple way to reconstruct the whole object (collection really) from that string. You'd have to serialize to xml or something. I know that is obviously possible, but don't recall how.

In the current version, you can serialize to a xml or json format string, and then deserialize back to an object. It's slightly more complicated than simply instantiating the object with the string as an argument, but not much.
